Waste to wealth
To enhance farmers’ income and promote sustainable agriculture, a biochar production unit was established for banana farmers in Chendipada Block, Angul district, in association with the Environment Sustainability Department of CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar. The initiative converts banana plant waste into potassium-rich biochar through pyrolysis technology, transforming agricultural residue into a valuable soil-enhancing resource. Biochar supports soil health, improves water retention and productivity, while also promoting carbon sequestration and circular economy practices, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers.

Vermicompost for Sustainable Farming
A vermicompost production unit has been established in Bamra Block, Sambalpur district & Kishoripal, Talcher, Angul district to promote sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. With technical guidance and continuous support from Foundation for PACE, farmers are adopting vermicompost production using locally available organic waste. The initiative aims to improve soil health, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, lower cultivation costs, and create additional livelihood opportunities for farming communities.

Climate Resilient Farming
Prashant Biswal, a progressive farmer from Satyabadi Block, Puri, is pioneering sustainable agriculture through natural farming on his 2.87-acre farm. Supported by PACE Foundation and Ambrionics, the region’s first pot drip irrigation demonstration unit was installed on his farm, promoting water-efficient and climate-resilient farming. This low-cost innovation improves soil moisture, reduces labour and water usage, and inspires farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural technologies.
